The Shun Elite 4 piece steak knife set contains four beautiful Shun Elite 4.5" Steak Knives in a bamboo presentation box.

Shun Elite Knives have an SG-2 steel core. SG-2 is a powdered steel, which can be tempered to an even greater strength than VG-10 steel. It is extremely dense steel with no imperfections or weak points. This increase sits Rockwell hardness to 64-66 and ensuring a very sharp, smooth and durable edge that won't chip and can be re-sharpened.

Shun Elite Knives are clad with two layers of a softer stainless steel that provides additional strength, flexibility, and resistance to corrosion. The result of this structure is that Shun Elite blades will stay sharp longer than other knives, while providing excellent flexibility and cutting performance.

The design of Shun Elite Knives is based on the style of traditional samurai swords. The wavy line next to the edge looks like ahamon, (which traditionally reflected a sword maker's signature design and indicated that a sword had been heat-treated) and there is a bead with an emblem on it, in the middle of the handle, that is like the pin that would connect a samurai sword to its handle.

As well as having the sharpest factory edge available and maintaining that sharp edge exceptionally well, Shun knives by KAI look elegant and are perfectly balanced for fast, effortless cutting.

Shun is a part of the KAI Corporation, a family-owned company located in Seki City, Japan which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2008. KAI is the major manufacturer and distributor of disposable razors, surgical tools, personal care products and housewares in Japan. In the United States, KAI has established several brand including: Shun cutlery and housewares, Kershaw sporting knives and Zero Tolerance military knives.

The "D" shaped handles are made of PakkaWood which is an ebony black composite material made of fused hardwood and resin and have thin rings of brass and copper for additional detail. These handles are durable, beautiful and allow for a secure grip.
