This large carving board has a juice groove around the edge to stop liquids from spilling off your board, and convenient handholds for ease of lifting and carrying.
Bamboo is 16% harder than maple wood, 1/3 lighter in weight than oak, yet in some instances as strong as steel. Bamboo holds the promise of a sustainable, cost effective, and ecologically responsible alternative to the widespread clearcutting of our old growth forests.
The bamboo used by Totally Bamboo, Phyllostachus, Pubescens, is more commonly referred to as "Moso" and is grown 500k west of Shanghai in China. This part of China has a temperate climate which encourages a slower growing bamboo and therefore producing a much denser, harder and durable culm or stalk. Unlike most other hardwoods, it absorbs very little moisture and consequently does not shrink or swell as much making it a superior choice of material for cutting boards.

Bamboo is harder and denser than most hard woods, it is 16% harder than maple, which is the most common wood used for most cutting boards.

After harvesting, bamboo grows back and can be re-harvested every 4 ½ years. Bamboo does not need re-planting. Most hardwood have a 30 to 60 year growth cycle.

Totally Bamboo use only premium grade bamboo and then, only the lower portion of each pole because it is much denser.

No artificial dyes or stains are used. There are 2 colors, light and dark. The light is the natural color of bamboo. The dark is "cooked" to perfection, literally, a result of the heating process. The natural sugar in the wood is caramelized, producing the beautiful honey color. This is permanent and will not wash off. This allows the boards to be sanded if needed.
